Background Information:
Built 1789-94 to the designs of Daniel Hague, who also developed Portland Square.
Declared redundant, fell into disrepair, vested in the Churches Conservation
Trust in 2000.
Circomedia, the circus school, identified as a potential user of the building.
CCT obtained a 2.4m HLG grant in 2002. Building opened as circus skills performance
space following major fabric repairs and the installation of a full trapeze rig
and sprung wooden floor.
n.b. Repairs by Philip Hughes, former SPAB Scholar.
Won RICS Community Benefit award, as focus of the community-led regeneration
of the St. Paul's area.
Tamsin Harcourt, CCT Community Development Worker, will speak.
Members of Circomedia and the Design Team will elaborate on the technicalities of achieving the rejuvenation
of such a dilapidated building for such a specialised use.
It is hoped some members of the circus school will be able to demonstrate their
skills.
As the event coincides with the annual "Cafe at the Circus", a selection of Fair
Trade and organically produced cakes and drinks will be available.

The sites are:

ventilate the underground iron ore mine workings below. The chimney is located
in woodland on a steeply sloping site.
* Langham Engine House - ruined remains of one of the many engine houses to be found on the Brendon
Hills in the 1800's.

associated structures including ruined winding house, underbridge and revetment
wall.
Please note the sites are a short drive apart and the visit will necessitate
a good deal of walking, sometimes over steep and rough/challenging ground.
Appropriate clothing and boots etc. should be worn.
