On our regional courses, we also hold practical sessions in using lime. 
 
There is a lime slaking demonstration, followed by workshops in using lime for repointing and plastering.
 
Because of this practical afternoon we can't quite fit as many lectures in - those marked ** in the list above are only covered on the London course.

Terraced houses are a common sight in our towns and cities, the first mass-produced dwellings, built to house the expanding population.  This one-day course will offer essential advice and guidance on the key issues affecting these much-loved buildings and could be the ideal Christmas gift!
 
Marianne Sühr will be joined by other expert speakers with first-hand experience.  As well as the history and architecture of the terraced house, topics will include:

 brickwork
 energy efficiency 
 sash windows
 roofs and general maintenance
 party walls and extension issues 
 
Each booking includes a copy of the new hardback SPAB publication ‘Old House Handbook’ co-written by Marianne, and details of the Terraced House event in a pack – perfect to unwrap on Christmas morning.

Packed with advice and detail it includes information relevant to owners of terraced homes dating from the beginning of the last century as well as to those caring for ancient beamed cottages.
