Education & Training

Training has always been an important part of the Society's work.   The dates of all forthcoming courses are listed on the events page.  Today we offer training, guidance and advice in a number of different ways:
  • For owners of old houses, we run weekend courses of illustrated lectures, case studies and practical workshops.
  • For people professionally involved with buildings (architects, surveyors, engineers, planners, builders, contractors, craftsmen and women, etc.) we can offer:

    • Repair of Old Buildings Course - a six-day course of lectures and visits, held in spring and autumn each year.
    • SPAB/RICS Conservation Summer School for building surveyors at the Royal Agricultural College, Cirencester.  A four day course of lectures, site visits and practical, drawing and writing workshops.  Visit www.rics.org/summerschool for more information.
    • Lime Courses for contractors interested in working on Edwardian and older buildings.
    • Various Technical Courses for anyone interested in learning more about a variety of topics. Ideal for CPD.
  • Since 1930 and 1987 respectively, the Society has run two longer, specialist training schemes:

  • The Philip Webb Award is an annual competition for architectural students at UK Schools of Architecture.
